The limits

What a scan cannot tell you

Independent research puts automated tools at catching somewhere between a third and a little over half of real accessibility problems. These are the kinds of things that need a person.

  • Whether your checkout actually works with a screen reader
  • Whether a video's captions are accurate rather than merely present
  • Whether the tab order makes sense to someone who can't see the screen
  • Whether alt text describes the image or just repeats the filename
  • Anything that only appears once a real person tries to complete a task

This is why Allcess never reports a “compliance score”. A scan is evidence of what an automated tool found on a given date, and that's a genuinely useful thing to have. It is not a certificate, and anyone selling you one is overselling.
